Etsy fees 2026: what you really keep from a sale

On Etsy, a 20-euro sale looks good at first. How much of it you actually keep only becomes clear once you subtract all the fees, shipping, packaging and your materials. Many sellers are surprised at that point. Here you'll find all the important fees and a complete worked example.

Etsy fees at a glance

  • Listing fee: USD 0.20 per listing, so just under EUR 0.20 depending on the exchange rate. It is charged when you list an item, at each automatic renewal after four months and for every additional item sold from the same listing.
  • Transaction fee: 6.5% of the item price plus shipping and gift wrapping.
  • Payment processing fee: in the EU usually around 4% plus EUR 0.30 per order, calculated on the full order total. The exact rate depends on the country of your bank account.
  • Offsite Ads: 15% of the order total when a sale comes from an Etsy ad outside Etsy, for example on Google or Instagram. Once your shop passes USD 10,000 in annual sales, the rate drops to 12%, but you can no longer opt out. The fee is capped per order.
  • Currency conversion: 2.5% if you sell in a different currency from the one you are paid out in.
  • Etsy Ads (ads on Etsy itself): optional, you set the daily budget.

In some countries a regulatory operating fee is added, and depending on your tax status Etsy charges VAT on its fees. What applies to your account is shown in your monthly Etsy statement.

Worked example: a 20-euro sale

You sell an item for EUR 20.00 and charge EUR 4.90 for shipping. The customer pays EUR 24.90 in total.

Etsy fees

  • Transaction fee: 6.5% of EUR 24.90 = EUR 1.62
  • Payment processing: 4% of EUR 24.90 + EUR 0.30 = EUR 1.30
  • Listing fee: approx. EUR 0.19
  • Total: EUR 3.11, which is 12.5% of the order total

Your own costs

  • Materials: EUR 4.50
  • Postage: EUR 4.30
  • Packaging: EUR 0.80

You keep EUR 12.19 for your working time, photos, customer messages and taxes.

And if the sale came through Offsite Ads?

Then 15% of EUR 24.90 is added, so EUR 3.73. Fees rise to EUR 6.84, which is 27.5% of the order total. Only EUR 8.46 is left.

That is exactly why you should build Offsite Ads into your price. You never know in advance which sale will come through an ad.

The most common calculation mistakes

  • Forgetting the fees on shipping. The transaction and payment processing fees also apply to the shipping charge.
  • Not allowing for Offsite Ads. A single sale can end up with almost no profit.
  • Offering free shipping without raising the price. Then the postage comes out of your margin.
  • Discounts without doing the math. A 20% discount can wipe out your whole profit when margins are small.
  • Only looking at your payout. The payout doesn't show what your materials and packaging cost you.

How to set prices that pay off

  1. Work out materials, packaging and postage per item precisely.
  2. Decide what an hour of your work should be worth, and include your time per item.
  3. Plan for Etsy fees, including Offsite Ads to be on the safe side.
  4. Check the price at which you stop making a loss (break-even). The guide How to calculate break-even shows you how.
  5. Compare your result with similar listings and adjust if needed.
